Software Can Help Your Managed Services Business
By Kristin Clifford, staff writer

Managed services is becoming an ever more popular and profitable part of the IT Channel. Respondents to a recent CompTIA Web poll said that managed services or remote network monitoring were one of the most deployed solutions being offered by their company. The majority of respondents (65%) said their services revenue has experienced significant growth within the last twelve months.

Offering managed services is an ideal way to transition from reseller to full solution provider. There are many tools on the market that can help your company do this.

Kaseya offers software that resellers can use to provide managed services remotely. Customers purchase a license for the software and can then market the product as part of their own solutions package. Kaseya products can be used to address both strategic and tactical IT requirements within an organization.

Jim Alves, executive vice president of marketing at Kaseya, said managed service providers (MSPs) can use the software as a framework for managing and delivering client networks.

"It lets them create a recurring revenue stream," Alves said. He said the broad benefits of Kaseya software allow MSPs to provide a higher level of reliable services. Kaseya enables them to automate business processes for their clients, leaving them time to do IT consultation and identify projects that will keep the customer happy and save them money.

M.J. Shoer, Virtual CTO of Jenaly Technology Group, Ltd., outlined several of the benefits his business has seen from using Kaseya. Jenaly has been providing managed services for about nine years, and has used Kaseya software for more than a year to deliver managed services to their clients.

"We’ve basically revamped service delivery around their framework," Shoer said. Jenaly also integrates technology from ConnectWise to deliver their managed services offerings.

Shoer said Kaseya software has allowed Jenaly to provide their clients’ with a level of service they would ordinarily not be able to afford. The software allows them to remotely automate services and routine preventative maintenance. This almost completely reduces the amount of “forest fires” his company used to be called upon to deal with just a few years ago, Shoer said.

He said Kaseya allows them to provide remote services to their clients almost in real time, no matter where their clients are. Although most are located near them in New England, Jenaly has a global reach with clients as far away as Singapore.

"(Tools like Kaseya) allow us to service a more diverse market than we previously would have been able to," Shoer said.

He said that because the software allows them to automate so many routine processes, they rarely need to provide services in person for their clients. The elimination of travel expenses and other maintenance costs makes their services much more affordable for all their clients, and it allows smaller businesses to have the kind of IT support they would normally be unable to afford.

Essentially, Jenaly is able to provide them with a virtual IT department, and the contained ongoing cost of providing services through Kaseya lets them give their customer a more defined cost.
